Let's go back to the end of the 19th century, when female riders stopped riding side-saddle on horseback to ride astride. What does this have to do with cryolipolysis? Well, it was at this time that women first experienced the effect of cold on fatty tissue! No more wide, heavy and warm dresses, make way for pants! And this is how the outer part of the thighs was exposed for the first time to the cold during the winter. In the spring, what a surprise for these women to discover areas of depressed skin on their thighs! Bad surprise in fact, knowing that at the time women loved their curves! It was only two centuries later that a Harvard Professor, Professor Coleman, became interested in this phenomenon. So allow me to offer you a little scientific digression full of medical jargon to explain it to you. The fat cell, very nicely called adipocyte, is like a little balloon filled with fat. Around the age of 20-25, the quantity of adipocytes in our body will remain stable until the end of our days, the latter filling or emptying depending on the variation in our weight. When an adipocyte is exposed to extreme temperature, a phenomenon of apoptosis will be triggered, causing cell death. Indeed, the fat cell is sensitive to cold. When the temperature within the adipocyte reaches 3-5°C, the nucleus of the cell will send a message at the origin of a process responsible for the death of the cell. A form of suicide! Then, this dead cell will be eliminated naturally, like any other dead cell (skin, intestine, etc.) by our “garbage” cells, the macrophages. So what will Cryolipolysis do? Well, thanks to an applicator, the fatty bulge that is recalcitrant to sport or any form of diet, this bulge that is causing you so much trouble, will be sucked inside the device and cooled to a temperature of around 3°C for an hour. Following this, the famous process of apoptosis will begin, resulting in the death of 15 to 30% of exposed adipocytes. It's like liposuction, but without the surgery! The aftermath of the treatment is extremely simple and the rare side effects (bruises, redness, etc.) disappear within a few days. You will need to have patience to visualize the results because the process of eliminating dead adipocytes being natural, it will take approximately 3 months before you can contemplate your new silhouette. Another good news? the result is definitive, the adipocytes are permanently eliminated and will not return, as long as you maintain a healthy lifestyle. Dr SGL
